A note on Maxi Cards Maxi Cards (also called Maximum Cards) are Post Cards issued for a specific stamp. The Maxi Card either shows the exact design of the stamp but much larger (example #264-5), or a picture related to the stamp (see #318). Maxi Cards are produced ahead of time, and on the First Day of Issue, a single stamp is affixed on the Card and cancelled with special cancellation which is produced for that specific stamp. The same cancellation is also used on First Day Covers. Usually more information about the stamp is printed on the back of the Maxi Card. "Maximaphilea" company, with special license from the Armenian Post, has been printing the Maxi Cards of Armenia since early 1990s. Quantity issued is between 300-500 pieces, thus most Maxi Cards are scarce and in demand. Not every issue has a Maxi Card, and in rare cases, two Maxi Cards with different designs are produced for a single stamp. Maxi Cards of Armenia make a very beautiful collection, in most cases the details which are not easily seen on small stamps are shown on the Maxi Cards, thus the name "Maxi". |
