Towards the end of 2006, a Dutch company, affiliated with the Dutch Post Office, entered into negotiations with the Armenian Government to buy the Armenian Post, known as “Namakanish” a semi-government entity which was established in 1992 to issue and distribute the stamps of Armenia (know as Hay Post in Armenia). While the negotiation were going on, “Namakanish” continued to issue stamps, sell at Post Offices, and offer to the International dealers. All major dealers purchased these stamps and sold to their clients.

After the negotiations concluded, the newly established “HayPost” issued the first set of stamps (Scott 749-50) on May 2007, a joint issue between Armenia and France (Our Catalog #405-6).

By adding the word “Post” to the new stamps, “HayPost” declared all previously issued stamps of Armenia (which do not carry the word Post) as illegal and unofficial. On top of that by declaring all the Armenia stamps as “worthless”, the “HayPost” took over the entire inventory of Namakanish, the unsold stamps issued since the 1992 Independence Day which were archived and kept at “Namakanish” vaults.

In a letter to the International catalogs, “HayPost” announced all the issues of 2006 as unauthorized. Only Scott catalog took the letter seriously and unlisted some 50 stamps (pictured in the catalog but not numbered or priced). Other International Catalogs, “Stanley Gibbons”, “Michel”, “Yvert et Tellier”, and all album producing entities, such as “Lighthouse”, “Schwbeck”, “Minkus” and “Linder”, realized the illegality of the letter and continued listing all the issued stamps of Armenia.

Since 2007 our firm and the ARPA (Armenian Philatelic Association) located in California, USA have communicated with the “HayPost” and “Scott Catalog”, neither party looks at this matter seriously.

Ironically most stamps unlisted in “Scott Catalog” are being sold at the Philatelic Window of the Armenian Post!
